Airtel has also increased call rates from 18 kobo per second to 25 kobo per second. However, some plans, like the 5GB weekly plan for ₦1,500, remain unchanged.

Why Did Airtel Increase Its Prices?

According to telecom operators, the tariff adjustment is necessary to:

  • Improve network quality and coverage.
  • Enhance customer service experience.
  • Ensure continued investment in telecom infrastructure and innovation.

Consumer Reactions & Economic Impact

Many Nigerians have expressed concerns over the affordability of telecom services following this increase. Economic analyst Bismarck Rewane, CEO of Financial Derivatives Company, noted that:

"While this hike will benefit telecom operators, it will put additional strain on consumers’ finances, possibly leading to reduced usage."
