Portable Arrested by Kwara State Police Over Allegations of Threats, Defamation Against Fuji Star Osupa

    Popular Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, widely known as Portable, has been arrested by the Kwara State Police Command over multiple allegations, including criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, and character assassination involving renowned Fuji musician Okunola Saheed, also known as "Osupa."

The arrest comes after Mr. Osupa filed a formal complaint accusing Portable of actions that could disturb public peace, notably using offensive and insulting language targeted at him.

In an official statement released on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, revealed that the petition raised serious concerns including defamation, threats, incitement, and behavior that could trigger unrest.

“Given the gravity of the allegations and the evidence presented, the command obtained a lawful arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin,” the statement read.

Following the warrant, officers from the Kwara State Command traveled to Abeokuta, Ogun State, and apprehended Portable at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Saturday, April 13. He was then transported to Ilorin for further questioning and investigation.

Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed, “The suspect provided a statement in the presence of legal counsel from both parties. He is currently in custody, and we are making preparations to charge him to court promptly.”

The arrest comes after weeks of rising tension between Portable and Osupa, a feud that played out on social media and allegedly included threats and derogatory comments made by Portable.

A source familiar with the matter shared, “After several verbal attacks escalated into threats, Osupa had no choice but to involve law enforcement. No individual is above the law, and this situation underscores the need for accountability, especially among public figures.”

The police have urged the public to avoid spreading rumors and allow legal procedures to unfold without interference.
